NYSEARCH funders pursue Pilot Testing of Next Generation Methane Detector
Since 2009, NYSEARCH has been working with Applied NanoTechnology Inc. (ANI) to design, develop and test a next generation methane sensor that can be applied in the residence and for other analytical applications. In 2013, following significant findings regarding performance of this physical sensor, NYSEARCH members recognized the potential of this device and have focused their investment of time and funds, with cofunding from PHMSA/DOT, on the residential application. With programmable sensitivity to very low levels of the Lower Explosive Limit and unsurpassed reliability to interferents such as household chemicals, since fall of 2015, the device has been undergoing UL Certification testing. Recently, NYSEARCH members approved funding to launch the initiative to perform pilot tests in numerous employee homes once UL testing is complete. These critical pilot tests are the pre-cursor to product commercialization. The NYSEARCH team and the gas company members who have volunteered to solicit employees are working with various contractors and experts to ensure a comprehensive pilot test and technology transfer process.
