First Round of Field Tests for Trenchless Replacement of Steel Services with Plastic Pipe Completed

Trenchless Replacement of Steel Services w/ Plastic Pipe The first round of field tests were completed in 2015 at PSE&G, Con Edison and Central Hudson Gas & Electric.

In the summer and fall of 2015, NYSEARCH conducted field tests at PSE&G, Con Edison and Central Hudson Gas & Electric on an innovation that we are developing with TT Technologies to replace small steel services of various lengths through use of a trenchless device that pulls in new plastic. These tests on 1 ¼" and 1" services resulted in information about distance covered in a short period of time (less than 30 mins), footprint of the device, and varying conditions with older pipes and different curb valve designs. TT Technologies has responded and is working with funders to enhance the prototype. More tests are planned by NYSEARCH for spring 2016.
